The Psychotic fascination again
So I did promise you I'd b back with another list, hell trust me this is getting harder than I thought it would, so if I do miss out any excellent ones let me know so I can continue with my addiction.
- Shutter Island: An excellent movie in every respect, its complex and puzzling and since its a period piece it feels like its a homage to the movies by Alfred Hitchcock that introduced us to this genre, one thing I must tell you.....you skip a beat, you're lost.....this demands your undivided attention and on a further note INTELLIGENCE.
- The Butterfly Effect: I know what most of you are thinking 'DAFAQ is wrong with this woman?' I hate Ashton Kutcher and will agree that the movie was a very badly made one and the acting is fucking agony but watch it for the idea and the thought which was at least for me very intriguing.
- Silence of the lambs: People would kill me if I didn't put this movie on the list, One of the best movies ever made......this movie will definitely creep you to the bone with it's intense blend of horror, crime and mystery. I could give you endless reasons to watch this movie but the strongest point would be the acting......Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins immortalised their characters.....Clarice Sterling and Dr. Hannibal Lecter and if you don't feel a little shiver when you hear this name after having watched this movie.......I'll be damned.
- Memento: The one movie that made everything look simpler.......Christopher Nolan's narrative of an anterograde amnesia victim played by Guy Pearce out to avenge the death of his wife, it is an innovation in film making and a brilliant movie of our time that established this genius director.
- Basic Instinct: When I first watched this movie........I was simply shocked out of my wits to say the least....it has some of the most controversial scenes of cinema but is still a movie that lives up to it's repute. One word about Sharon Stone......her character of a deeply disturbing writer who goes out of the way to create those murder mystery plots.....god so fucked up....you'd doubt anyone could play it.
- Black Swan: I did not understand the hype this movie generated.....it was a particularly creepy movie backed by excellent performances and particularly great film making but the story was nothing as such that created a thriller......but Natalie Portman paints a tragic picture of a schizophrenic ballerina.
- Se7en: A psychopath who bases his murders on the seven deadly sins......a young and restless investigator (Brad Pitt) under the tutelage of an experienced one (Morgan Freeman).......it qualifies as one of the best psychological thrillers of all time and god these people can do it all....from seemingly nothing to a shocking twist.
- Identity: I don't like John Cusack and did not really expect much when I saw this movie but I must say it pleasantly surprised me. Ten strangers in a Nevada motel notice they are getting bumped off one by one....think its normal....watch this movie for the great storyline.
- Cape fear: Robert De Niro and Martin Scorcese can only create magic onscreen and this one is no exception and can I say this is way way better than the 1962 movie, Sam Bowden and Max Cady will stay with you forever.
- Primal Fear: I'm not sure if this really qualifies but trust me Edward Norton's haunting portrayal of an innocent altar boy who is accused of murder and then starts to reveal his true shades made it difficult for me to see him as anyone else. Richard Gere is great too as the attorney who fights tooth and nail to defend him.
- The Prestige: Ohhhh SHUT UP! Sure it stars Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale and is made by Christopher Nolan but that is not it's only merit....excellent story about two rival magicians out to make each others life hell, excellent acting by my two favourites :* and superb scenes. So if you haven't watched this one just shush.........
These are the movies I have thoroughly enjoyed and inspired me to watch more and more.....there's a lot more to this genre than you can expect and there are many movies like natural born killers, vanilla sky, the rear window, dial M for murder, shining etc; which are equally enticing the best one undoubtedly Psycho no arguments about that one ......one movie I'd like to add is the Dark Knight simply cause Heath Ledger's psychotic JOKER was sooooooo mesmerising I forgot Christian Bale for a while can you imagine?! :O. So if I have succeeded in generating a fragment of your interest to my true love than maybe the next movie I'm looking forward to watching is an old classic FREAKS!
Signing off with Red Lights and the only actor who can hold it Robert Di Niro

Dangerous addictions............
There's a certain genre of cinema that has always undoubtedly held me spellbound, I don't know hen it started but my morbid fascination with psychological thrillers has never really diminished. Maybe it started the day I stumbled upon Alfred Hitchock masterpiece 'Psycho' which kick started my dangerous addiction. This movie..............umm ok dude seriously there are no words to describe it....you bloody well will watch it cause if there was a genre called awesome it would definitely top the list......one tip though avoid the remake starring Vince Vaughn and Julianne Moore like the plague.....IT SUCKS!
Creating a list of my favourites seems impossible cause I've watched possibly every movie of this genre.....I've hated some(CERTAIN INSULTS TO THE GENRE) but I've loved most of them simply cause twisted minds are always a source of interest, why else would superheroes click, but here are a few that you shouldn't miss in no specific order :
Creating a list of my favourites seems impossible cause I've watched possibly every movie of this genre.....I've hated some(CERTAIN INSULTS TO THE GENRE) but I've loved most of them simply cause twisted minds are always a source of interest, why else would superheroes click, but here are a few that you shouldn't miss in no specific order :
- Talented Mr. Ripley: Doesn't sound so psychotic does it? well the one thing i really hate about making this list is that i can't reveal any details......I'd say watch it and don't cringe at how Matt Damon succeeds in making you feel uncomfortable in every scene
- Taxi driver: HELL is this one great movie.......Robert De Nero is god yes god, if you saw this movie you'd agree..... a mentally unstable war veteran lashing out in violence to clear the scum of the streets and saving a teenage prostitute brilliantly played by Jodie Foster....if that sounds banal.....I'm not spoiling anything.
- Vertigo: I'm not sure if this movie would figure out in any list but for me it's one of the movies ever made and it firmly established my undying love for these movies and you should watch this movie if only to enjoy the cinematic excellence
- Fatal attraction: you wouldn't think a married man's one night stand would come back to haunt him for life, Glenn Close is amazing as an obsessive lover and Michael Douglas is as usual excellent as a tormented family man.
- Inception: Futuristic and brilliant.....one person who can convince us.....Christopher Nolan.....delving deep into the realm of dreams....changing forever our perception of something we tend to overlook....most people say they don't understand it....I say pay attention moron.
- American Psycho: I never thought I'd love Christian Bale the way I do now when I watched this movie......he was unnerving and freaked the crap out of me as a smart investment banker who gives into his psychopathic alter ego and indulges in violence and madness come night time.
- The Fight club:If you haven't watched this movie yet.....you are not eligible to be called a movie lover....and watch this movie now.....to see what I mean by psychological thriller.....I never thought I'd say this but you have got to love crazy Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Elena Bonham Carter.
- The machinist: fine i know many of you are going to argue that this wasn't one of the best movies made and that it makes the list only cause I love Christian Bale Ok I'll agree that it might be partially true but watch this movie if only to watch his riveting performance.
- the game: I know what you're thinking...another David Fincher.....well can i help it......this crazy man makes great movies.....you have Michael Douglas and Sean Penn and a movie revolving a live action that potentially begins to control life...need I say more

The Insane Genius....JIM CARREY
I am tired, stressed and pissed off! I know what I have to do......there IS only one person who can make me smile.......yes I desperately need to get hold of him............JIM CARREY!
You know what my first impression of Jim Carrey, the guy whose face got frozen funnily cause he twisted it way too much and no I was no fan of this whacky actor.....then I happened to watch a movie that typically changed everything about my perception of love, till then I had been fed the standard staple of romantic movies like 'the notebook', 'serendipity' and 'p.s I love you' sure they were OK if you believe everything is magically just be perfect, then you watch 'Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind' now that's the honest representation of 'one fucked up relationship' that just doesn't become alright overnight and Jim's portrayal of an impulsive Joel whose just not ready to let go of the one woman he loves is so endearing that you just have to fall in love with him. The fact that Mark Ruffalo MY favorite was playing an amazing role did not stop me from becoming a crazy Carrey fan.
After that experience there was no turning back, and the worst thing was I just saw this man as the guy who took my favorite cartoon and made a stupid film out of it 'The mask' but you know maybe its just my undying admiration or it could be that I'm immune to his nonsensical slapstick crap but I started liking this movie, an actor who can overdo the madness the way he does may never be born again and that's why you need to catch hold of this absolutely over the top rollicking gems cause you know without some insanity you're life is just banal, and in my tribute to the guy who makes my despair vanish in a jiffy and comforts me no matter what the problem......here's my MUST WATCH BEFORE YOU DIE list.
1. Bruce Almighty: There has been no movie in his career that earned such fame, appreciation or profit. The proverbial loser becomes endearing cause he's the man playing it and more so when he's suddenly invested with celestial powers. An experience you will cherish to say the least.
2. The Truman Show: Your entire life is TV show......that's the one line synopsis.....not only is it daring, bold and novel but with how much conviction can you play a guy who lives in a fishbowl under constant scrutiny where everyone around him are fake and you're unaware of that fact......watch this one to know.
3.Ace Ventura: Both the movies are absolute and complete craziness and watch them to catch him at his whackiest, craziest and absolute comic best.
4.The number 23: I know this movie is no comedy and its not one of his most appreciated works but honestly I fail to see why? His obsessive character representation is scary and freaky at the same time and it all goes out to prove that comedy is the not the only thing he is good at.
5.Liar, Liar: Returning to his forte COMEDY, its not his best maybe but I love him as the lawyer who lies his way through life and then suddenly finds himself in a situation where he can't do it and awakens to a life......there are few who could do it in a maddening way but he's still the best at it.
6.How the Grinch stole the Christmas: Living in India, I've always had this fascination to this western festival and undoubtedly this is my favorite........he is mean, abused, ugly and helpless the Grinch determined to steal the joy of the season from people who ridicule his deformity but can't help settling into the love and the message of the season. Yes that's what Christmas is about.
7. The cable guy: You don't mess with this guy.....directed by Ben Stiller, this is also one of his lesser known movies but its morbid and fantastic.....I love him.......and I can't help repeating it.....Nobody quite does crazy like Jim Carrey..... undettered by the genre,.if its funny or freaky....the one guy who can do it all!
8.Yes Man: NO.......That's his answer to everything until he can't say that word again. Supported by a sterling supporting cast of Zooey Deshchanel, Bradley Cooper etc; the situations he finds himself in are unbelievable but you're believing and rolling on the floor with laughter cause yes he's at it again.
9.The man on the moon: Everybody undoubtedly agrees that this is his career's most memorable performance as he excels in his tribute to Andy Kauffman as the man but I argue cause this man has been giving excellent performances all his life, so don't give me that, but still one that's a joy to watch because of his acting prowess that just gives it!
10. Me, Myself and Irene: Honestly I have just seen way too many people play split personalities( oops spoilers!) but what's different is the difference he brings, the unmatched craziness he brings to a pretty banal story....lot of actors can do that but no one can do it the way he does it! (I guess I have established that you will never dare to put him down)
My most loved film still remains 'Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind' you just have to watch this movie if you give two hoots about cinema that lives with you, there are few movies that didn't make the list most prominent being Dumb and Dumber that established him as the star but its just way too crazy and somehow didn't enamor the way he usually does. There my mood is great just by talking about him. Feeling a little down? MY only advice get hold of these movies, sit back and let him take over.
